Professional Learning in Family Support Social Work in Sweden

The integration of evidence-based practice (EBP) in human service organizations has increased during the last decade. Providing best possible treatment by applying research and considering client’s specific needs, EBP is recommended for organizations. However, due to its oftentimes manual-based format, critics claim that a result focus on cost-efficiency, control, standardization work. Different conceptualizations appear prevail, highlighting need more studies investigate different perspectives experiences (e.g., professionals). In this study, group interviews were conducted with family support social workers (n = 19) Sweden who are trained active model Family Check-Up (FCU). Participants reported FCU promotes professional learning development, especially experiential learning. Those interviewed felt research/evidence provided certain “weight” therapeutic situation, so they not merely treating patients based their own opinions. Further, was described as empowering developmental, an encouraging, reflective, reinforcing client-related approach. enable these kinds positive outcomes EBP, must provide sufficient time resources devoted practical application EBP.
